As a consumer I love a good deal but I don’t see this working in the long term with the current nature of the Internet. The mobile web has so much potential to reach so many who wouldn’t otherwise use the net.
I really dislike the idea of separating content into what they can afford to download because it’s free and what they cant afford to download because the site owner cannot afford the service. The vast majority of the sites I visit are knowledge based rather than brand based and it worries me how this side of the mobile web would develop. To me this takes away from the foundation of what the Internet is built on, allowing access to the little guy or the small business etc to provide content reachable by anyone.
At the moment I pay a little extra a month for unlimited bandwidth with my hosting company and perhaps if hosts were to offer mobile specific bandwidth deals which run alongside services such as THMBLS then I think this could do more harm to the mobile Internet than good.
